When we look at ourselves we see only faults. It is hard to accept that we are beautiful just the way we are. We cannot imagine others looking at us and not seeing all of our little imperfections. The surprise is that most others are too busy being self-conscious to spend much time thinking about how other people look.
What is the difference between what is ugly and what is attractive? The answer lies in what we tell ourselves. Take twins for example. One spends her life repeating positive affirmations and therefore sees herself as pretty. The other devotes her time to self-criticism and feels like the ugly duckling.
The truth is we are all different people inside and out. All that matters is what we tell ourselves. Over time we tend to believe that little voice inside of our head. Why not tell yourself positive things about who you are? God forbid we might start to believe that we can be loved by others.
My wife loves me. I may not feel worthy all of the time. What matters is she loves me for who I am inside and out. How do I know this to be true? She tells me. How can I believe it? I tell myself as well. Reality is what we make it. We can love and be loved in return. We deserve it. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.
